Graphic Design for Film and TV
For my last semester in college, I decided to create an independent study class on Graphic Design for Film and TV. The idea came about for this class when my friend Ruben and I watched an Adobe Max presentation done by Annie Atkins on her career as a graphic designer for film. After watching the presentation the first question we had was how do we do that? We then madly designed a full course to complete to give us a glimpse into the world of designing for film.
The class was split into four units: Fantasy, Period Piece, Sci-Fi/Futuristic, and Book of Our Choosing. These units were meant to give us a diverse selection of genres/styles so we could try designing for all different types of props. Within each unit we had to research to gather inspiration and create a story of some sort to design for, then we picked our props and made them. Each unit was a three-week process with a video at the end of the class as our final project (the video can be found on my 'Video and Film' page). Now that I've completed the class I can confidently say I learned a lot, and I would do a lot differently knowing what I know now, but I think my props still stand as great forms of visual storytelling which, in the end, was the goal of the class.
